lamin fofana brings percussive chamber atmospheriks for the new year with a three track EP on sticks and stones records. vinyl forthcoming on 30th jan. digital on 27th feb.

(there’s a soundcloud link and a youtube link. which to post?) the head of audio at the bbc thinks radio should offer more visual content. this is kind of reactionary. phones and tablets have screens so radio should use screens. but what do we put on the screens? a dozen bbc executives dip their heads in simultaneous consternation. ask youtube, it could be good.

today a very strong nguzunguzu mix comes your way. nguzunguzu have been one of the heaviest things about this year, no question. they have an ep (Mirage) coming out on Silverback Records at the start of October. beats everywhere, wonderful garish synths and RnB acapellas. yeseyeseyes.

it looks warm outside, but it’s not. in conditions like this it’s important to keep moving. Benjamin Newland made a soundsystem that moves – well-divided into its well-designed constituent parts:

“I think the wireless speakers can be used informally to socialise the consumption of music, outside ipods and club culture. Several of designs are suitable as open source designs where people can download them, adapt, and make them for themselves. It would be great to create a culture of sound system modification and display, much like modified car culture.”

the more observant among you will notice that the track used to exhibit the nomadic sound system is girl unit‘s I.R.L… girl unit has produced one of the biggest things there is as the moment. in case you don’t know, it’s ‘wut’ (forthcoming on night slugs)…

….

and those here in london can catch him playing on friday alongside a very strong lineup here.

dubbel dutch has been making quiet waves for a while now in this new bass water. here he is remixing fellow austin, tejas resident parson in a broken paving steppers style. he has a mix over here too.

another one to watch is ghosts on tape who plays out at san francisco’s ice hott. here’s a slow, mean one. and he’s got a fine mix you can have too.
