the credits for the final part of the sarkozy and bruni story. Mr. Stelfox’s piece on a producer named Mosey also seems relevant.

grouper – invisible (hyperbole and end of year lists are rubbish. this track is from one of the least rubbish records i’ve heard this year)

Pattie Bligh – Brother The Point (2562 Remix) (samiyam remix on the flip)

‘useful’ is an underused word.

“So I shall, instead, keep this review extremely short and state simply that RADIANCE OF SHADOWS contains some of the most shattering and emotionally exhausting music ever laid down, and that its incredible usefulness lies in the fact that – however tiring your day was – listening properly to music of such extraordinary intensity brings to their knees those listeners who are still standing upright, turns those who are seated into ritually slaughtered and slouching bogmen, and delivers those already recumbent straight to the Land of Nod.” said Julian Cope.

It came from canada and sounds like a big metal bird humming teutonic plates into granular motion. I realise that lots of other things sound like that too, but this one has tinnitus hiding behind your ears with the dirt in the quiet times and, as Mr. Cope notes, can also paralyse.

Peter Sz̦ke РThe Unknown Music of Birds (brief edit) 256k 8.3mb

Bird song is not as it seems to man as he hears it under normal conditions in nature, nor do the birds themselves perceive it in that seemingly natural form. It is possible to slow down (stretch) bird song (the tape recording) to 2, 4, 8, 6 and 32 times its natural duration…Once they are slowed down in an appropriate form, then our ears can recognize the true melodic structure of the bird songs, whether musical or non-musical, which was hidden behind their original microscopic form” – from the liner notes
