no international journalists are currently permitted to enter gaza. i wrote before about the border crossings. now surveillance and narrow turnstiles have been replaced by air strikes and possibly a ground invasion as tools of physical and psychological warfare. here is a piece where a bbc journalist describes crossing the border last month. the infuriatingly level tone drummed into bbc employees breaks down a couple of times before he remembers his training. the most deceptive thing the media can imply is that israel and palestine are equal in ability and culpability. (re)aestheticising this feels clumsy.
