Essence riddim. Indivisible righteousness. Post-dialectic roots and culture. Sizzla brings the prozac vocal. Medication is another strong theme in roots.
Sizzla - Don’t be sad (essence) 192k 5.4mb
Meanwhile in West Germany, 1972:
Conrad Schnitzler - die rebellen haben sich in den bergen versteckt 128k 17.2mb
from 1972’s ‘Blau’ LP. Bio & release info here.
Popul Vuh - Aguirre I 128k 6.9mb
From the soundtrack to Herzog’s 1972 film in which Klaus Kinski performs conquistodorial psychosis.
In post re-unification Germany Herzog and Kinski’s ghost would enjoy success starring alongside each other in a long running sitcom.

PS/ Been waiting a long time for someone to post some more Kuduro? - head over to Fat Planet immediately.

The UK is somewhere under a large cloud today - cold air and constant drizzle, music by Max Richter. I won’t bore you with a long bio (check here instead) but I will mention his soundtrack work and collaborations with FSOL and Ronnie Size. These two tracks are from his new LP on Fat Cat which also features Robert Wyatt reading from Haruki Murakami (in English). Although this may seem contrived, its pretty successful and in no way overblown, with Wyatt limiting his narration to a short, thematic paragraph or two.
Smallfish will give you a good price for the CD or you can get the mp3s from Bleep. There’s also a nice interview via Boomkat.
Max Richter - Song 320k 7.25mb

“Nostalgia show[s] a collective unconscious in the process of trying to identify its own present at the same time that they illuminate the failure of this attempt, which seems to reduce itself to the recombination of various stereotypes of the past” (Jameson 1991: 278).
Check the new MIA track at Wirewool or Fat Planet. Where were you in 92? Beware, the past is catching up with us and its wearing cycling shorts which is bound to reduce air resistance. As the 70s were popular in the 90s so the 80s must be popular as time creeps on. I’m afraid 1992 is our future now. As this process accelerates temporal overlap is unavoidable - it will be 1992 at least 5 times before we die - the referent of each being a successively diluted 1992 (that is unless chronology collapses - then the cycle of time will break and everything will move jerkily in garish neon colours). In 2006, as we enter 1992 mark2 Global Hypercolour lurks around the corner - if you endorse this process you can wear your sweat as a badge of commitment. MIA of course knows this and collapses every phrase into nostalgic anacronym (”word[s] made from representative letters of other words that have been forgotten or are taken out of their correct chronological context” W).
So as the world gets sweaty and changes colour and time begins to crumble i’m going to post the last bit of OldSkool for a bit. Keep looking over your shoulder.

Revival! OldSkool with dubstep airbags. First mix on Ableton too. Some Justice remains one of the most perfect tunes I’ve ever heard - bass engineering wasn’t up to much back in the day, but Some Justice is really strong (c.f. the tune that follows it). This will be up on the Word The Cat *******’s Space page which I’ve finally gotten round to sorting out. Size limits mean the quality is pretty low over there but spatial networkers and those who enjoy crackly mixes can nevertheless find it here.
