Some heavy noise/psychadelia today:
Birds of Delay

Birds of Delay divide their time between Leeds and London. They are a duo. They released extended pieces on CDr format. Most of them are sold out. Check Volcanic Tounge and you might find some. They have Myspace. This is from the Charnel House CD-r.
Birds of Delay – Charnel House 2 15.7mb
Yellow Swans

Yellow Swans are also a duo. They are from Oregon and Northern California. They also release CD-rs. They are “interested in full spectrum
tonality”. This is from last year’s ‘psychic secession’ release on the Australian label Numerical Thief.

Less obviously heavy, but on the same theme, Badgerlore are another bay area-based outfit. Badgerlore’s current line up are Yellow Swans’ Pete Swanson, Tom Carter of Charalambides, Ben Chasny of Six Organs Of Admittance and Rob Fisk of 7 Year Rabbit Cycle. Taken from the new ‘Stories for Owls’ LP. Buy here.

Alvars Orkester
Alvars Orkester is now a duo. According to Forced Exposure (where you can buy product), “Alvars Orkester was formed in 1987 in Johannishus, a small village in the southeast of Sweden by a group of young boys interested in the mysteries of psychic sickness, mental institutions, the industrial music culture and the power of sound”. This is from their new ‘interference’ release.
Alvars Orkester – Cobra Mist 6mb (m4a)
Suishou no Fune

Tokyo’s Suishou no Fune are strong! This from last year’s self-titled debut LP. New product out now.

Word The Cat April Mix 23.7mb
In France people give each other fish on the first of April. We don’t do this in England. This mix borrows vocals from the Radio Ballad ‘Singing the Fishing‘ and features music (mostly) from Northern Europe including Biosphere, Herve Boghossian, Jacob Kirkegaard, Supersilent, Mika Vaino and Icebreaker. The final bassier track is from Australia’s Dave Miller. The vocal pile up at the end is built from the Colour of Pomegranates soundtrack.

Tomorrow night WordTheCat presents Canadian Slam Poetry don Brendan McLeod with support from David Broad at the Pack Horse pub, Woodhouse Lane, Leeds. It’ll be a low key event (no PA) but both performers are fantastic. Admission £3 doors 8pm (probably starting at 8.30 or so). More on David Broad here or at his website, hear Brendan McLeod in this Word The Cat mix over Request Line. Here’s a nice picture of David.

WFMU posted this fantastic LP of Japanese folk from the 60s and 70s. Selective listners GET! Kan Mikami and Hako Yamazaki’s tracks.
Motel de Moka has interview and downloads for Finnish avant-what? bods; Paavohaju. Here.
Continuing a folk theme here’s a couple of English folk tunes about killing. Posted an Anne Briggs version of ‘Polly Vaughan’ last year, but I reckon Shirley Collins’ version’s better. Both of these tracks come from Alan Lomax compilations.
Shirley Collins – Polly Vaughan 3.7 mb
Fred Jordan – The Outlandish Knight 4.3mb

Swen’s got a post on William Basinski, the excellent minimalist composer over here. It includes a link to this place where you can get a copy of the hour long film made to accompany the first part of his Disintergration Loops series. Here’s a track from Basinski’s LP with composer and sound installation man (sound installer?)Richard Chartier. The LP came out in 2004, here’s a joint interview.
William Basinski and Richard Chartier – Untitled 1 26.7mb

“They are very high or very low frequencies quite often. they are perceivable… they just dont register as loud for example.” -RC
