The Internet must die

EU says internet could fall apart

“A battle has erupted over who governs the internet, with America demanding to maintain a key role in the network it helped create and other countries demanding more control.

The European commission is warning that if a deal cannot be reached at a meeting in Tunisia next month the internet WILL SPLIT APART.”

More at the Guardian. (OK, so the article doesn’t live up to the amazing first paragraph, but what could?)

“Why are you killing everyone?”

Saw Born to Fight last night. Think Ong Bak meets Shaolin Soccer but somehow not as good as that sounds. Kudos for the shots of the little girl tae kwon do-ing that guy’s dick in, as well as the “death-for-all-fake-stuntmen” approach. The whole weird patriotism flava seems weird to us the Western “and England’s dreaming” crowd. We can save Thailand through discipline and sports philosophy and tight shots of the flag.

CHAAARGE!

100 hundred villagers roused by the Thai national anthem coming out a shitty boombox run into the guns of the terrorists, but ‘sall good cos the martial artists are all safe as, including the one with one leg. True to form, sarge with the dodgy tache gets blown to fuck in the first reel, but most of the Hollywood action tropes are presented as token, kinda totem signifiers that they stick in cos they have to, dig? Now on with the ass kicking. Still, unlike pussy Hollywood terrorists, the rogue army actually fucking shoots some of the children, on camera. Nice.

The techno soundtrack ruled. For some reason it made me want to see a German action/martial arts movie. Now there’s a hook.

Free Maiden

I’m well scared of bird flu in fact i just shat myself and it was eggs. But don’t hate the player hate the game. Down with biology and all organic matter. Take out the distributors. Burn down your nearest Tesco.

Saw Birchville Cat Motel in Leeds last night and it made my jaw throb in an oddly pleasing way. “Birchville is probably some sort of Yves St Laurant wearing, latte drinking, bogan band.” Birchville is also Campbell Kneale, a high school teacher who lives in the suburbs of New Zealand capital Wellington (“Dont get me wrong, I ain’t no wuss”). He was raised on metal and calls his style free maiden. He’s toured all over Europe and North America and has been self releasing on Celebrate Psi Phenomenon for 10 years. Live, he uses a mixing desk, toys and processed vocals. The following tracks are both taken from last year’s US tour. The first is from a live set recorded on December 30th 2004 in New York with Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo. The second was available on the tour cd. Both are available, with many more, HERE

News from the dead

Posted by Chris on October 10, 2005 at 3:49 pm

OK so Robbie Williams has finally come out as the Warrior-Bard for a new era of self-made pop gods. The Eschaton finished its fag break and sat back down at its cubicle, needing some pumping tunes to juice to while it finished the spreadsheets by deadline. No problem, dog, we gots what you need. Is this the final death of the weird? Or some kind of geek-esoterica ripple effect as we approach the end of the world? Regardless, the magiks make for great tabloid stories and uncool is the new cool (which is so uncool, when you think about it).

Grant Morrison is Robbie’s new guru. They speak on the phone all the time. Check the sigils if you don’t believe me. sigil

No-one knows yet if, like 2002′s “Escapology”, buying this album makes you sterile. But early reports suggest it does.

Says Grant, regarding his involvement in this: “So, I’m just going to keep doing more and more, more until I achieve mega-karoshi – the state of transcendental employment-as-suicide. You know me.” The flow of ideas into money continues with a weird-eyed grin.

Reinforced

Here’s a downloadable version of DJ Virus’ mix currently streaming at Marc Mac’s NuWave Radio. It’s the Reinforced Records back catalogue from 92/93 and it sounds very nice. This is partly because most of the tracks contain several different breaks, unlike current club drum and bass where you’ll be lucky to hear 2 different breaks over a whole night.
