Rough Americana: Mutamassik & Morgan Craft
Lot of buzz running round the blogs about Mutamassik right now. Her partner in Rough Americana, Morgan Craft has worked with Christian Marclay, Talib Kweli and Marc Ribot. There are MP3 samples here and Mutamassik`s track `Immigrants on Course` in full at Lemon Red.

I stumbled across this report on Darfur. Vast swathes of the earth are forgotten land (past space mountain over by adventure land), but the use of the term `forgotten land` subsumes them into a mass of indistinguishible fucked-up-places-at-the-end-of-the-news. Borders are re-drawn to take in Aceh, Haiti, Darfur. Didn`t that strighten itself out last year? If a tree falls unreported in a forest it makes no sound. Compliance through zen logic. Media cyclops watching his sheep. Incidently a piece of sheeting fell of a very important aeroplane the other day. Nasa will recieve up to $2.2 Billion in the next 5 years On top of $60 Billion to build a new space station . Marvel at the prices. Awe and shock in the pit of my stomach.

Just got back from Death Comet Crew alongside Ramm:Ell:Zee. No Mecha, no quack and no eye contact with the crowd. There was however the unpleasant but inescapable conclusion that everyone on the stage was too OLD. Stuck behind a load of netting - more trapped dolphin than badman retiarii.

There was a fucking awesome mid-heavy bleeding ears electro set frm DJ Tuttle. He doesn`t seem to have a website but does play a lot of shows in Osaka. The booby-prize is this Ramm:Ell:Zee MP3. Distance breeds cred so download this little piece of organic matter encased in bandwidth mecha armour.

“Super Heroes and villains of the “Transversus Womb.” They are known to the Hue-mans as the “Recyclers” and the “Trashers.” They fight to win the Alpha Bet. Which is a bet between “Alpha Positive” and “Lords’ Minus” on the domination of language with the sounds of “MURMUR.” “Lords’ Minus” wants to remove the icons of the Earth and replace them with his own. “Alpha Positive” is the “HORRORS” math positive God and “Lords’ Minus” is their negative God. The “HORRORS” are gamblers of Galactics’ cards. The “Monster Models” (recyclers) are “Alpha Positives’” crew. They are The Duchess, Traxx, Chaser, the Eraser, Barshaw Gangstarr, Panmaximus Magus, Destiny, and the RAMM:ELL:ZEE. The “Garbage Gods” (trashers) are controlled by “Lords’ Minus.” They are: Shun-U, Wind, Vain, Crux, Destin, Reaper Grimm, and Rip-Cord Rex.”
Ramm:Ell:Zee in Japan, home of Mecha. Tonight alongside Death Comet Crew at Club Noon.

In Japan original Ramm LPs go for $4000 and the kids here REALLY like what they like, so I`m expecting a Mecha-crowd. We`ll see how it goes in Osaka (100 degree heat today). Until then, Letter Racers: illuminated physical expression of accelerating language.

Good night last night. Very friendly. Big up Fly-T and Legal Pirates. Tokyo is a cool city - here`s a link to a video by J-Jazz band Soil and “Pimp” Sessions` track Summer Goddess. And a photo of the small but perfectly formed Godzilla statue in Ginza district

Hostels with free internet give me lots of time to track the news. 6/7/2005 UN forces storm Haitian slums killing dozens. BBC offer a short article with quotes and figures taken entirely from authority sources here. Haiti Action Committee offer a view from the ground here, including a quote from human rights observers describing “scorched earth” tactics used by the UN. Also, a report from demonstrations a week later here. Naomi Klein considers rhetoric, counter rhetoric and US influence here. In what could only be an unrelated story Jack Straw expresses his astonishment that independent think-tank Chatham House suggested attacks on London could be connected to UK foreign policy. British politicians have many rhetoric devices. On BBC`s Today programme defense secretary John Reid appeals to people`s common sense:?”The idea that somehow by running away from the school bully, then the bully will not come after you is a thesis that is known to be completely untrue by every kid in the playground and it is also refuted by every piece of historical evidence that we have?”?Except according to him the bully is the terrorists and the UK is the kid getting picked on. Wonders never cease.

Got… ? In Japan they say GET…! Inspire a mass frenzy of giddy consumption with the imperative. Distinct from the American guilt trip/scaremonger approach: “look everyone else has got it/if you don`t have milk you can`t leave it all over my face.” For pseudo-social causes see Lets…! eg. here: Let`s (P)ecology.

Also, check the Rock n` Roll/teddy boys in Yoyogi Koen. They used to rule the place but riot police forced them out. Ace! Ganbei!
