Web artists Young-Hae Chang Heavy Industries(Young-Hae Chang and Marc Voge) dislike interactive art: “To me it’s a paltry, laughable thing, like getting a kick out of pulling the trigger of a gun: click: bang. I don’t get it. When I click on interactive art, I get the feeling I’m the rat in the Skinner box, except there’s only the miserable reward, not the shock. Art isn’t reward, it’s shock, or something approaching it, something I would call beauty.” These flash pieces are stipped bare. Jazz and accelerated text. “Language is the essence of the Internet, the real gateway to using the Web” and the pieces are available in 8 different European and Asian languages. Can’t get enough of how tight the visuals are to the music. RAIN ON THE SEA: yr eyes are left far behind as the text pours off the screen straight down yr optic nerve. Just posted 2 mixes on the main part of the site HERE The first is culled from a broadcast we did inspired by the looping function on the iRiver. A tracklisting is pretty difficult but the first half is mostly composed of Steve Reich remixes and a loop from Alice Coltrane’s Universal Consciousness LP. The second half includes poems from New York schoolchildren and a loop from Iron Man.
The second mix was pulled together on Cool Edit while I was in bed with flu last night. Big up DJ /Rupture’s blog where some of the tracks were found:
1) Les Clefs de la Prison (from Alan Lomax: Creole & Cajun)
Dynamix II - Addicted to Bass
Theopolis Stokes - Washboard Rhythm (from Alan Lomax: Black Appalachia)
2) Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy & Boo - Icey
3) Tahitian Choir - Tamaiti Hunahia
Derrick Brown - Angels That Leak
4) Amancio Prada - Cancion Del Jinete
5) Tu M’ - What You Say
Adachi Tomomi - Anata5
6) As Melhores do La - Santa Amelia
7) Rod Lee - Dance My Pain Away
Early in the Morning (from Alan Lomax: Negro Prison Blues Songs)
